George Bush Intercontinental Airport
IAH Airport Guide: Terminals, Airlines, Skyway, Wi-Fi
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) has five terminals, A through E, linked by a free Skyway inside security and a free Subway before security. Terminal B is being rebuilt: its gates are open, but you check in and clear TSA at Terminal C. Since March 2026 the expanded Terminal E is also where Air France, KLM and Lufthansa check in. IAH served over 48.7 million passengers in 2025 and sits 23 miles north of Downtown Houston.
Key facts
What do you need?
Terminals at a glance
-
Terminal A
Open
Main airlines: American Airlines and Spirit passengers are met at Door A-115 on the airport's pick-up page, and JetBlue lists Terminal A on its own IAH page. The airport's baggage claim page sends United passengers arriving at Terminal A to Terminal C for their bags. Houston Airports does not publish a full airline list by terminal, so confirm yours on your booking.
American, Spirit and JetBlue. United passengers arriving here collect bags at Terminal C.
Official Terminal A map -
Terminal B
Under construction
Main airlines: United Airlines runs this terminal, which is being rebuilt. The official map and departures board now number Terminal B gates B40 to B68; some airport pages still say B3 to B31. The gates stay open, and concessions at Terminal B South remain open. The Terminal B ticketing lobby is closed, so Terminal B passengers check in, drop bags and clear TSA at Terminal C, then take the Skyway to Terminal B. United also runs optional connecting shuttle buses between Terminal C and Terminal B. The airport says the lobby closure lasts until late 2026, so check the airport alerts page for the reopening date.
Under reconstruction. Gates and United Club Fly stay open, but you check in and clear security at Terminal C.
Official Terminal B map -
Terminal C
Open
Main airlines: United Airlines. The airport's baggage claim page sends United passengers arriving at Terminals A, D and E on domestic flights to Terminal C for bags, and its alerts page has Terminal B passengers check in and clear TSA here. Minute Suites is near Gate C14. Confirm your airline and terminal with United before you leave.
United check-in and security for Terminals B and C, with a Skyway and Subway station.
Official Terminal C map -
Terminal D
Open
Main airlines: Air France, KLM and Lufthansa check-in moved from Terminal D to Terminal E in February and March 2026 (Houston Airports). The airport's security page says only two airlines now operate from Terminal D, so its TSA checkpoint keeps limited hours. It does not name those two airlines, so check your booking. International arrivals at Terminal D walk to the Terminal E arrivals hall for Customs and bags. Terminal D also has the Centurion Lounge, the USO and the sales tax rebate desk.
Small terminal with limited TSA hours. Several international airlines moved their check-in to Terminal E in 2026.
Official Terminal D map -
Terminal E
Open
Main airlines: The expanded Terminal E is now the check-in point for international airlines that left Terminal D. Houston Airports moved Air France and KLM on Feb. 27, 2026 and Lufthansa by March 3, 2026, and said more airlines would follow in phases. It did not list the others, so confirm your check-in location with your airline. United's international flights also use Terminal E, and the baggage claim page sends all international arrivals here for Customs and bags.

IAH terminals and airlines
George Bush Intercontinental Airport has five terminals, A through E. Here is what Houston Airports publishes:
- Terminal A: American Airlines and Spirit arrivals are met at Door A-115, and JetBlue lists Terminal A on its own IAH page. United passengers arriving here collect bags at Terminal C.
- Terminal B: United's terminal, being rebuilt. Its gates, now numbered B40 to B68 on the official map, stay open, but you check in and clear TSA at Terminal C.
- Terminal C: United check-in and security, plus United baggage claim for domestic arrivals from Terminals A, D and E.
- Terminal D: only two airlines now operate here, and TSA hours are limited. Air France, KLM and Lufthansa moved to Terminal E.
- Terminal E: the expanded international terminal. It is now the check-in point for the international airlines that left Terminal D, has a 17-lane TSA checkpoint with PreCheck and CLEAR+, and holds the international arrivals hall with Customs and Immigration.
Houston Airports moved Air France and KLM to Terminal E on Feb. 27, 2026 and Lufthansa by March 3, 2026, and said more airlines would follow in phases. It has not published a full airline by terminal list, so confirm your terminal on your booking, your airline app or fly2houston.com before you drive to the airport. The airport's airline directory lists 25 airlines, including Aeromexico, Air Canada, American, British Airways, Delta, Emirates, Frontier, JetBlue, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar, United and Volaris. The airport map is at fly2houston.com/iah/map/.
What's changing at IAH right now
- Terminal E opened in expanded form. Houston Airports says Air France, KLM and Lufthansa now check in only at Terminal E, with more international airlines moving from Terminal D in phases. The new checkpoint has 17 lanes, with TSA PreCheck and CLEAR+. The airport says lounge locations remain unchanged. If you arrive at Terminal D by mistake, you are directed to a 10-minute walk to Terminal E. If you parked in the A/B Garage, take the Subway directly to Terminal E.
- Terminal B is being rebuilt. The airport says the Terminal B ticketing lobby closed on January 21, 2025 and stays closed until late 2026. Its gates, numbered B40 to B68 on the official map, stay open. A United Club Fly opened in Terminal B South in late February 2025, and the old Terminal B United Club closed. Terminal B passengers check in, drop bags and clear TSA at Terminal C. The airport alerts page does not give a reopening date, so check fly2houston.com/iah/alerts/ before you fly.
- Terminal D has limited TSA hours. The airport says only two airlines currently operate there. The checkpoint is open 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
- The IAH Subway turned 45 in August 2026 and runs on its normal schedule.
Getting between terminals
IAH has two free trains that run every day. Which one you use depends on whether you are past security.
- Skyway (inside security): an above-ground people mover with stations in Terminals A, C and D/E. It leaves every 2 minutes, and the ride from Terminal A to Terminal D/E takes 4 minutes 15 seconds.
- Subway (before security): an underground train with stations in Terminals A, C and D/E and at the Airport Marriott. It leaves every 3 minutes, and one stop takes about 3 minutes. It runs from 3:15 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. and is closed from 12:15 a.m. to 3:15 a.m. A complete loop takes about 19 minutes.
Follow signs marked Skyway or Subway. Both are free.
Connecting between Terminals B, C and E on United? Houston Airports lists optional United shuttle buses that run between Terminal C and Terminal B, as an alternative to the Skyway during the Terminal B project. The airport advises allowing at least 20 minutes for transit between terminals.
