PHX terminals and airlines by terminal

PHX has Terminal 3 (T3) and Terminal 4 (T4). Here is where airlines are listed on PHX's passenger airlines page:

  • Terminal 3: Advanced Airlines, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines, Denver Air Connection, Frontier, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Porter Airlines, Southern Airways Express, Sun Country and United.
  • Terminal 4: Aeromexico, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, China Airlines, Contour Airlines, Southwest, STARLUX, Volaris and WestJet.

PHX lists 24 passenger airlines in total. Concourses: T3 has E gates on the north side and F gates on the south side. T4 has concourses A, B, C and D, and every T4 checkpoint reaches every T4 gate.

PHX is a connecting hub for American Airlines. American's newsroom says PHX "has remained an important hub for connecting the southwestern U.S. with the airline's global network" and that it operates more than 300 peak daily departures from PHX. Southwest Airlines said in February 2024 that it offers up to 220 departures a day from Phoenix, with nonstop service to 60 destinations in the United States and Mexico. If you connect between airlines at PHX, check the terminal of your second airline: you may have to ride the Sky Train and go through security again.

Counter deadlines: Frontier closes its ticket counters 1 hour before departure, and Porter Airlines 90 minutes before.

PHX adds that airlines often sell tickets for flights run by a partner. Check your boarding pass to see which airline operates your flight, and check in with that carrier.

What's changing at PHX right now

Check these before you fly:

  • A new six-gate north concourse is under construction at Terminal 3. PHX expects it to be finished in 2027. It will add about 173,000 square feet, with shops, restaurants and a lounge.
  • Because of that work, PHX says overnight lane restrictions stay in place indefinitely on Sky Harbor Boulevard along Terminal 3. Roadway and terminal access are kept open, but at times the Terminal 3 garage can only be entered and exited on its south side.
  • Westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard on the west side of the airport was reduced to a single lane starting August 14, for the Taxiway Uniform project. PHX says to plan for extra travel time.
  • PHX announced a future West Terminal between Terminal 3 and Taxiway U. PHX's timeline shows construction from 2029 to 2033 and a potential opening in late 2033, and says the timeline is subject to change. American Airlines is named as the primary carrier. Nothing changes for your trip today.
  • Every night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the PHX Sky Train keeps running, but nightly maintenance can make waits longer.

Arrivals, departures and security

For flight times and gate changes, use your airline or skyharbor.com. This page does not repost flight information.

At least one TSA checkpoint is open around the clock in each terminal. The Terminal 3 checkpoint is open 24 hours. In Terminal 4, Checkpoint A is open 24 hours, B from 4:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., C from 3:15 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and D from 3:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Any Terminal 4 checkpoint works for any gate.

PHX RESERVE is a free program that lets you reserve a time at the checkpoint, up to six days ahead or at the ticketing level. PHX shows live checkpoint wait times on skyharbor.com.

Walking from the checkpoint to the farthest gate on a concourse, PHX gives these distances: T3 E gates 910 feet and F gates 1,475 feet; T4 A gates 1,405 feet, B gates 1,380 feet, C gates 1,100 feet and D gates 337 feet. Your gate may be closer.

International arrivals and customs at PHX

PHX says most international flights arrive at Terminal 4, Level 3, at the east end near Dunkin'. PHX lists Air France, British Airways, Aeromexico, China Airlines, STARLUX, Volaris and WestJet at Terminal 4. Air Canada and Porter are listed at Terminal 3, so check with your airline for your terminal and gate.

For flights from Canada, PHX says customs and immigration clearance sometimes takes place in the Canadian departure area, so ask your airline what applies to your flight.

Bring a valid passport: PHX says all travelers entering the United States by air, including citizens, must have one. PHX also says the CBP Mobile Passport Control app is the only authorized app for entry into the United States. Global Entry interviews at PHX take place at the Enrollment Center on Level 3 of Terminal 4.

Getting around PHX

The PHX Sky Train is free and runs 24 hours a day. It connects Valley Metro Rail at 44th and Washington streets, East Economy Parking, Terminal 4, Terminal 3, 24th Street Economy Parking and the Rental Car Center.

  • From 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. the wait averages about 3.5 to 7 minutes.
  • From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly maintenance can stretch waits to 15 minutes or more.
  • At Terminal 4, the station is on Level 3 and leads directly to the security checkpoints. At Terminal 3, the station is on Level 5: take the escalators in Ticketing up to Level 4, then up again to Level 5.

PHX said in 2022 that the ride from Terminal 4 to the Rental Car Center takes under 8 minutes, and the full 5 miles from 44th Street takes about 13 minutes. The Sky Train serves the Rental Car Center directly.

Terminals 3 and 4 are linked by the Sky Train. PHX does not publish a walking time between the two terminals, so use the Sky Train.

Early Bag Check and luggage

PHX offers Early Bag Check at the Rental Car Center and East Economy Parking, so you can check bags before you reach the terminal. It is for domestic flights on Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United, daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check bags at least 90 minutes and no more than four hours before departure, up to two bags per person depending on your airline. PHX adds no fee, but your airline's bag fees still apply.

Luggage storage: PHX lists no left-luggage service. Ask your airline how it handles bags before you plan around a locker.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi is available across the airport, provided by Boingo. Join the network named Free PHX Boingo WiFi, open your browser and choose the free option, or sign up or log in. If you get an error, turn off your pop-up blocker. For help, call Boingo at 1-800-880-4117. Outlets and USB ports are on the lobby tables in both terminals, and charging kiosks are in the lobbies and several gate areas past security.
