Terminal C, the home of United, has the most restaurants, and the airport says it has more than 50 dining options. Terminal A is the newest terminal and has a food court with several local names. Dietary needs and cheap water

EWR says its food listings include gluten free, halal, kosher, soups and salads, and vegetarian and vegan options, and the food directory has a filter for each. Examples: Evolve by Hudson lists kosher-certified sandwiches, Bang Cookies sells certified kosher cookies, and Abruzzo Mercato is tagged kosher, vegan and gluten free. Check each menu with the vendor.

The directory also has a $2 Water filter, and many listings carry that tag. The airport does not say which vendors take part, so ask at the counter.

Prices, surcharges and ordering

The airport says restaurants may charge up to 15 percent more than local off-airport street prices for comparable products, because airport operators face higher security, training, logistics and construction costs.

Concessionaires may also add a 3 percent Employee Benefits and Retention surcharge to your pre-tax bill. The Port Authority Board of Commissioners approved it for EWR, JFK and LaGuardia, so you may see it on a receipt.

The airport does not list a mobile ordering program. Ask at the counter or check each restaurant's own app.
