Newark Liberty International Airport
EWR Airport Guide: Terminals, Airlines, AirTrain and Wi-Fi
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has three terminals, A, B and C, and all three are open. Terminal A is for Air Canada, American, Delta and JetBlue, Terminal B is the international terminal for 33 airlines, and Terminal C is United's. United also flies from A and B, and the AirTrain does not stop at Terminal A. EWR's Terminal C page calls Newark the home of United, with more than 350 daily flights.

EWR terminals and airlines by terminal
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has three terminals: A, B and C. All three are open. EWR's airline list, checked on October 9, 2026, shows 38 airlines:
- Terminal A: Air Canada, American, Delta and JetBlue. United also flies domestic departures and arrivals from A.
- Terminal B: 33 airlines, mostly international and low-cost carriers, including Alaska, Allegiant, British Airways, Emirates, Frontier, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. JetBlue uses B for international arrivals only, and EWR says some overnight international United flights may arrive there.
- Terminal C: United only, with domestic and international departures and arrivals.
So United uses all three terminals and JetBlue uses two. United has the biggest presence at Newark and uses all three terminals. Terminal C was built as the hub of Continental, which merged with United in 2010, and EWR calls Terminal C the home of United. United also runs up to 100 daily departures from Terminal A. EWR says some overnight international United flights may arrive at Terminal B.
Always check your boarding pass or your airline's app before you leave. EWR says airlines can change and tells you to confirm with your carrier.
Gates after security: A has gates 1 to 34, B has 40 to 49, 51 to 57 and 60 to 68, and C has 70 to 139. EWR lists walk times from security of 2 to 10 minutes at A, 2 to 4 at B and 1 to 10 at C.
What's changing at EWR right now
Check these before you fly:
- AirTrain partial outage, July 27 to November 13, 2026. On weekdays from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., the AirTrain does not serve the Airport Train Station (the NJ Transit and Amtrak stop). Arriving by train, take the free shuttle bus to your terminal. Leaving by train, ride the AirTrain to P4 Station and transfer to a free shuttle bus. EWR says to add 10 to 15 minutes. Weekends and other hours run normally, and service between the terminals, Rental Cars, P3 and P4 is not affected.
- A new AirTrain is being built. The Port Authority's 2025 traffic report says construction began in 2025 and passenger service is expected in 2030. EWR warns of temporary AirTrain disruptions during construction and says shuttle buses run when service is down.
- Terminal A is new. The Port Authority says it replaced the old Terminal A in early 2023.
For live alerts, see the Alerts and Advisories page on newarkairport.com. It carries the AirTrain bus service notice described above.
Getting between terminals
The AirTrain is the way to move between terminals. It is free, trains generally arrive every 3 to 5 minutes, and EWR says the ride between terminals takes under 20 minutes. It also serves the Terminal A station (for Rental Cars), P3 Station (hotel shuttles), P4 Station (daily parking) and the Airport Train Station (NJ Transit and Amtrak).
The catch is Terminal A. The AirTrain does not connect to it directly. You walk about 15 minutes on a covered pathway or ride a free shuttle bus for about 5 minutes. The shuttle runs between Terminal A and the Parking A garage, and EWR says it arrives about every 5 minutes. There is a live shuttle tracker on the AirTrain page.
From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., AirTrain trains arrive and leave Terminals B and C every 15 minutes, and a shuttle covers the extra transfer to Terminal A.
Connecting on United? A continuous post-security shuttle bus links Terminal C (near Gate C71) and Terminal A (between Gates A28 and A29, across from Starbucks), so you do not clear security twice.
The AirTrain page has a live shuttle tracker and current service notices.
Check-in, security and getting help
For flight times and gate changes, check your airline or the flight search on newarkairport.com. We don't repost flight information here.
EWR says most airlines open check-in 3 to 4 hours before departure and close it 45 to 60 minutes before takeoff. Gate information is usually posted about 3 hours before. EWR does not publish a recommended arrival time, so follow your airline's guidance.
For domestic flights you need a REAL ID, an Enhanced Driver's License or a valid passport. Without one, TSA Confirm.ID costs $45, and you should allow extra time.
CLEAR is at Terminal A, Terminal B Gates B40 to B49 and Terminal C. The Terminal B CLEAR hours on EWR's page are Sunday to Friday 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 4:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For help, look for the red-uniformed Airport Customer Experience Specialists at the Information Centers in the arrivals area of each terminal. EWR also has WhatsApp support (Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, weekends 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET) and general support at +1 (973) 961-6000.
International arrivals and customs
The International Arrivals Facility for U.S. Customs is in Terminal B, which the Port Authority says opened in 1996. EWR's airline list sends JetBlue's international arrivals to Terminal B even though JetBlue departs from Terminal A, and EWR says some overnight international United flights may arrive there. The Port Authority also describes U.S. Customs facilities at Terminal C, so confirm your arrival terminal with your airline.
Ways to speed up entry:
- Global Entry members use paper-free kiosks and the designated Global Entry lane.
- U.S. and Canadian citizens can use the free Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app with no pre-approval. Download it before your flight to the U.S., scan your passport, answer the arrival questions and submit a selfie in the app up to 4 hours before landing. On arrival, use the designated Mobile Passport lane.
- Enrollment on Arrival lets approved Global Entry applicants complete the required interview when they land at EWR.
Food, shops and places to relax
EWR lists restaurants, shops and lounges for each terminal on newarkairport.com. Terminal C has the largest dining program EWR describes: its Terminal C page says more than 50 dining options, from sit-down restaurants to quick service, and also mentions over 60 dining concepts. Terminals A and B have restaurants, shops and lounges too.
The airport's "We Value You" program offers lower-cost food and shopping at participating locations. Ask in the shop.
For hours and whether a spot is before or after security, use the interactive map. We cover each terminal's restaurants on our food page for EWR.
Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi is available. EWR's FAQ tells you to join the network named _Free EWR WiFi. EWR does not publish a session length or usage limits, so check the network's terms when you connect.
Boingo runs the Wi-Fi and offers customer support 24 hours a day at +1 (800) 880-4117.
Lost and found
EWR runs a virtual lost and found office, and you file a claim online at chargerback.com/ewr. EWR says this is required for items lost in the terminal, including passports and visa documents.
Left something at a TSA checkpoint? File with the same virtual office, or fill out the TSA Lost and Found form and pick EWR from the list.
Left something on a plane? Contact your airline. Checked bag missing or delayed? Contact your airline first. EWR says you can then visit a baggage services office if you still need help.
EWR lists no walk-in desk, phone number or holding period, so keep your claim confirmation and check the status online.

Getting to Manhattan

Train: take the AirTrain to the Airport Train Station and board NJ Transit or Amtrak. The AirTrain costs $8.75 per person each way to or from the Airport Train Station, in addition to the transit fare. It is already included in NJ Transit app tickets bought ahead; if you hold no NJ Transit or Amtrak ticket, you are charged as you enter or exit the station. A separate fare applies for PATH. Pay with a contactless card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, the NJ Transit app or a ticket machine. Remember the weekday 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. shuttle-bus transfer through November 13, 2026.
Bus: the Newark Airport Express Bus stops at every terminal and serves Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park and Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Taxis, ride apps and shuttles also serve EWR. Use official pickup areas and ignore anyone offering rides who isn't in an official uniform. Check our to-city page for details.
