CLT terminal and concourses
CLT has one main terminal with five concourses, A through E, all open. You check in and claim bags in the main terminal, then walk through the Atrium to your concourse. The D/E Connector links concourses D and E, and the A/B Connector links A and B.
- Concourse A: gates A1 to A39.
- Concourse B: gates B1 to B16.
- Concourse C: gates C2 to C19.
- Concourse D: gates D1 to D13.
- Concourse E: gates E1 to E45, including the E Rotunda.
CLT does not publish which airline uses which concourse. Your boarding pass or airline app shows your gate. All concourses and gates are reachable from any security checkpoint. Lounges give a few clues: Delta's Sky Club is on the Concourse A mezzanine, and American's Admirals Clubs are at B5 and in the D/E Connector on CLT's map (American calls the second one Concourse C/D).
CLT's airline directory lists 14 airlines: Air Canada, American, Contour, Delta, Etihad, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Southwest, Sun Country, United, Vacation Express, Viva Aerobus and Volaris. CLT says Sun Country, Vacation Express and Viva Aerobus fly on a charter or seasonal basis. CLT's About page counts differently: six major carriers, 15 regional carriers and four foreign flag carriers, with nonstop service to more than 194 destinations.
What's changing at CLT right now
Check these before you fly:
- The Terminal Lobby Expansion was completed in September 2025. It added about 175,000 square feet and renovated about 191,000 square feet, with expanded security checkpoints, larger baggage claim areas and redesigned roadways.
- Terminal renovations are done on Concourses A, B and C and the Atrium. CLT says work will "soon move to Concourse D and E," with no dates published.
- Concourse A's second expansion phase, 10 more gates to the north, was completed in fall 2024.
- Concourses B and C expansions are listed as planned, with no dates.
- American announced on October 6, 2026 that it will build its largest Admirals Club in its network in the Atrium, on the mezzanine, with more than 40,000 square feet. Construction starts this year and the existing Admirals Clubs in Concourse B and C/D stay open during the work.
Getting around CLT
CLT's pages describe no train or shuttle between concourses. You walk, using the elevators, escalators and moving walkways in each concourse and the Atrium.
CLT has no motorized passenger carts because of the size of its concourses and the foot traffic. If walking is hard, ask your airline for wheelchair service.
The terminal map is at cltairport.com/airport-info/website-maps. The interactive map shows estimated walk times between two points and each shop's current hours.
Quiet spot: CLT recommends the Concourse A Connector, which it calls the quietest part of the airport, or the interfaith chapel on the Atrium mezzanine.
Connecting at CLT
CLT is American's second-largest hub, with more than 180 destinations in 27 countries and over 650 peak daily flights, according to American. Delta flies daily from CLT to seven Delta hubs: Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Salt Lake City, Boston, New York LaGuardia and New York JFK.
There is no train between concourses, so a connection means walking. Elevators, escalators and moving walkways help, and CLT's interactive map shows walk times between two points. Concourses A and B meet at the A/B Connector, and D and E at the D/E Connector, but CLT does not publish walk times between A and E. Check your gate on the app as soon as you land.
If you need help on a tight connection, ask your airline for personal assistance throughout the connection before you travel.
Arriving from abroad
CLT's airline directory includes Air Canada, Etihad, Lufthansa, Viva Aerobus and Volaris, among others. CLT's pages do not explain customs routing, so follow the Customs and Border Protection signs after you land and keep your passport and customs declaration handy.
Global Entry members and Mobile Passport Control users can speed up entry. The Global Entry enrollment office is in Arrivals/Baggage Claim, before security, by appointment only, Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Security checkpoints
CLT has three checkpoints, all run by TSA. Any checkpoint gets you to any concourse.
- Checkpoint 1: standard, special assistance and family lanes, 3:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Checkpoint 2: Main TSA PreCheck, 3:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. Standard and special assistance lanes there, 7 to 11 p.m.
- Checkpoint 3: standard and special assistance, 3:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.
CLT says hours are subject to change and that nobody can go past the checkpoints once all of them are closed. Live wait times are on cltairport.com/airport-info/security.
Wi-Fi and charging
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. Join the network named CLT Free WiFi. If it won't connect, open a new browser window or refresh the page.
Charging stations are on all concourses. Seating with built-in power and USB is at gates A1 to A39, B1 to B16 and C2 to C19. Power outlets are also in the Atrium and all concourses. Use your own cable, because shared USB ports can be risky.
