CLT Car Rental: Where to Pick Up and Return Your Car

Rental car counters at CLT are in the Level 2 lobby of the Hourly Deck, in front of the terminal. You reach them from baggage claim on foot, and CLT's directions do not mention a rental shuttle. Eight companies work from the facility: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Sixt. Turo says it holds a delivery permit at CLT.

Your options at a glance

Where the rental cars are

The Rental Car Facility is in the Level 2 lobby of the Hourly Deck, in front of the terminal. CLT's address is 5501 Josh Birmingham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28208.

All rates, reservations and availability go through the rental companies themselves, not the airport.

The Hourly Deck holds the rental facility on Levels 1 to 3 and hourly parking on Levels 4 to 7. CLT also links a Rental Car Return Entrance map on its rental page.

How to pick up your car

  • Start on the Arrivals/Baggage Claim level.
  • Take the escalator or elevator to the Lower Level Walkway.
  • Walk through it and take the elevator up to the Level 2 lobby.
  • Go to the counter of your rental company.

CLT's pages do not give a walking time. Allow extra time with bags.

How to return your car

Follow the signs on the airport roads toward the Hourly Deck. Drive past the Hourly Deck entrance on your left, then take the next entrance right away on your left, marked for Rental Car Returns. Follow the signs to your company's return area inside the deck.

When you are done, use the elevators on the south side of the deck. Go to Level 5 for the bridge, or Level 1 for the Lower Level Walkway. Both lead to the terminal.

Off-airport rental and Turo

CLT lists only the eight on-site companies, so any off-airport company is not on CLT's pages. If you book one, ask where and how it meets you, and confirm the address before you land.

Turo says it holds a delivery permit at CLT. Turo hosts may hand over cars only at the Daily Deck, Hourly Deck, Long Term Lot 1, Long Term Lot 2 and the Express Deck self-park area, which is online booking only. Curbside handoffs anywhere on airport property are prohibited. Hosts pay the parking costs, and CLT's license plate readers record drop-offs and pick-ups at unapproved spots. Ask your host which of those spots they use and where to meet.

Fees and rates

CLT publishes no rental fees, airport surcharges or rates. Your quote from the rental company is the number that counts, so read the fee lines before you book.

Accessible rental cars

Accessible rental cars are available from the rental agencies at no additional cost. The companies ask for at least 48 hours of advance reservation.

Driving to the airport

CLT lists these routes. From I-85, take Exit 32 or Exit 33. From I-77, take Exit 6B to Billy Graham Parkway. From I-485 northbound (inner), take Exit 9 to Wilkinson Boulevard. From I-485 southbound (outer), CLT sends you to Exit 9-10 first, then to Exit 9 for Wilkinson Boulevard. The airport entrance is on Josh Birmingham Parkway.
