MIA Airport Guide: Concourses, Airlines, Map and Wi-Fi

Miami International Airport (MIA) has three connected terminals: North (Concourse D), Central (Concourses E, F and G) and South (Concourses H and J). MIA is a hub for American Airlines, which checks in at D and E. Alaska is at E, Frontier at F, Southwest at G, and Delta and United at H. Moving walkways on the 3rd level link the terminals, a Skytrain runs along Concourse D, and the free MIA Mover goes to the Rental Car Center and the Miami Intermodal Center. MIA also serves about 1 million cruise travelers a year, so expect crowds on cruise days.

MIA concourses and airlines by concourse

MIA is one connected building with three terminals: North (Concourse D), Central (Concourses E, F and G) and South (Concourses H and J). Here is where airlines check in, according to MIA's airline directory:

  • Concourse D: American Airlines (also E), American Eagle, British Airways, GOL.
  • Concourse E: Aer Lingus, Alaska, Avelo, Finnair, GlobalX, Iberia, Level, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Surinam Airways. The E Satellite building is part of E.
  • Concourse F: Arajet, BoA Boliviana, Cayman Airways, Eastern Air Express, French Bee, Frontier, LOT, Sky Peru, Sky High, Sun Country, Viva Aerobus, Volaris.
  • Concourse G: Bahamasair, Porter, SAS, Southwest.
  • Concourse H: Aeromexico, Condor, Delta, IBC Air, Icelandair, ITA Airways, KLM, Turkish Airlines, United.
  • Concourse J: Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Canada, Air Europa, Air France, Avianca, Avianca Ecuador, Caribbean Airlines, Copa, El Al, Emirates, LATAM, Lufthansa, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, Virgin Atlantic, World Atlantic.

American Airlines calls Miami an essential hub, and its February 25, 2026 release about MIA cites around 400 departures a day. If you connect on American, expect to move between D and E. The directory lists the check-in location, not the departure gate. Airlines move, so confirm your concourse and gate with your airline before you leave. MIA's airline directory also links to a check-in counter and door map.

What's changing at MIA right now

Check these before you fly:

  • MIA is investing $9 billion in capital improvements, including an expansion of the South Terminal and modernization of the Central Terminal. MIA also lists a new hotel, a new parking garage, new boarding bridges and renovated restrooms as work under way.
  • American Airlines and Miami-Dade County plan a $1 billion Concourse D extension (the Gate D60 project) with 17 new gates. American says work is set to start in 2027.
  • MIA shows a rendering of a new Concourse K, slated to open in spring 2029. It is not open.
  • As of October 9, 2026, MIA's home page carried a transit alert: Metrorail riders need to transfer at Earlington Heights station for the Orange Line train to MIA. Check the airport's home page for the current notice.

Expect some construction noise and detours. Leave extra time on your first visit.

Getting around MIA

MIA is a long, linear airport, so plan your walk.

  • Skyride: moving walkways on the 3rd level connect the North, Central and South terminals with the parking garages and the MIA Mover station.
  • Skytrain: Concourse D is about a mile from end to end, and MIA says to allow at least 30 minutes to walk all of it. The Skytrain has 4 stations, each a quarter mile apart, with trains about every 3 minutes. Each station has one lobby for domestic and one for international passengers.
  • MIA Mover: a free elevated train from the 3rd level, between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages, to the Rental Car Center and the Miami Intermodal Center (Metrorail, Tri-Rail and buses). The ride is 1.25 miles.
  • Courtesy trolley: if you arrive at Concourse F on an international flight, a trolley takes you to the Concourse D international arrivals area.

The airport has three customs areas: Concourse D and E on the 1st level, and Concourse J on the 3rd level. Take the elevator to the 2nd level to reach other airlines or the garages.

Arrivals and departures

For flight times and gate changes, check your airline or the airport's real-time flight pages. We don't repost flight information here.

MIA's Departures page says to arrive at least two hours early for international departures, while the airport's security page quotes TSA's three hours, so lean toward three. For parking, MIA says the Dolphin North Garage is the most convenient if you fly American or Qatar Airways, and the Flamingo South Garage is nearest to all other airlines. MIA's parking page also names British Airways for the Dolphin Garage.

On arrival, all baggage carousels are on the 1st level. Ground transportation is also on the 1st level, outside baggage claim. Taxis and ride apps pick up on the arrival (ground) level outside baggage claim. The airport's street address for driving is 2100 NW 42nd Ave, Miami, FL 33142.

International arrivals and customs

MIA has three U.S. Immigration and Customs areas, in Concourses D and E (exit on the 1st level) and Concourse J (exit on the 3rd level). If you land at Concourse F, a courtesy trolley takes you to the Concourse D International Arrivals Facility.

  • Global Entry: MIA has dedicated kiosks and lanes in the North and South Terminals.
  • Mobile Passport Control: offered in all terminals for qualifying travelers.
  • Biometric facial comparison is offered to all international arriving passengers in all terminals, and to international departing passengers at most gates in the South and Central Terminals, expanding to the North Terminal.
  • Connecting to a U.S. flight from abroad: claim your bags before you go through U.S. Customs, unless your airline tells you they are checked through.
  • After customs in Concourse D or E you are on the 1st level, where ground transportation is. In Concourse J you are on the 3rd level. Take the elevator to the 2nd level for other airlines or the garages.
  • Cuba flights: MIA says you can buy a Cuba visa card at the airport for about $100, at a kiosk close to where flights depart to Cuba. One provider is Cuba Travel Services, 1-800-963-2822.

Cruise passengers

MIA says nearly 1 million cruise travelers a year pass through on their way to PortMiami, about 9 miles away. Cruise line counters are open on demand:

  • Carnival: Concourse F baggage claim (1st level) and Concourse D, 1st level, near Door 3.
  • Norwegian: Concourse G baggage claim (1st level) and Concourse D, 1st level, near Door 3.
  • Holland America and Princess: Concourse F baggage claim, 1st level.
  • Cruiseport Destinations: Concourse G baggage claim, 1st level.

Pre-arranged cruise line buses leave from the North bus station (Concourse D, 1st level, Door 1) or the South bus station (Concourse J, 1st level, Door 33). You can also take a taxi or ride app, or ride the MIA Mover to the Miami Intermodal Center and board the City of Miami Trolley (Flagami, Little Havana and Coral Way routes reach PortMiami, per MIA).

Getting to town without a car

MIA's Public Transportation page lists these options (checked October 9, 2026):

  • Amtrak's Miami station is at 8303 NW 37th Avenue, Miami, FL 33147.

Taxis and ride apps pick up on the arrival level outside baggage claim.
