Where the five checkpoints are

LAS has five TSA checkpoints. Three are in Terminal 1 and two are in Terminal 3.

  • Terminal 1: A/B Gates
  • Terminal 1: C Gates (Southwest Airlines)
  • Terminal 1: C/D Gates, also the way to the Blue Line Tram to the D gates
  • Terminal 3: Level 2 (D and E gates), with escalators and elevators down to the Red Line Tram to the D gates
  • Terminal 3: Innovation Checkpoint on Level Zero

In March 2024 TSA announced a prototype self-service screening system at its Innovation Checkpoint, with testing for TSA PreCheck passengers exclusively. The airport does not say whether that is still the case, so ask a TSA officer at the entrance.

Checkpoint hours

These are the hours the airport lists right now. Hours can change, so check the airport page before an early or late flight.

  • A/B Gates: 3:15 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • C Gates (Southwest Airlines): 3:05 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • C/D Gates: open 24 hours
  • Terminal 3 Level 2 (D and E gates): 3:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
  • Innovation Checkpoint (Terminal 3, Level Zero): 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

If your flight leaves in the middle of the night, the C/D Gates checkpoint in Terminal 1 is the only one listed as open 24 hours.

Where to see wait times

The airport runs a Security Wait Times page with current estimated wait times and hourly expected wait times. The airport warns that the estimates can change by the minute and should not be used to plan a later arrival.

So use it to pick a checkpoint or to know what you are walking into, not to cut your arrival time close.

When to arrive

The airport says TSA recommends arriving two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. The wait times page gives the same advice for each, and adds that you should check with your airline for flight updates.

TSA PreCheck and CLEAR

CLEAR lists these CLEAR+ lanes at LAS:

  • Terminal 1, A/B Gates: Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 4 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Terminal 1, C/D Gates: 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Terminal 1, C Gates Annex: 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Terminal 3, D/E Gates: Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 4 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

CLEAR also lists a TSA PreCheck enrollment spot at Terminal 1, D Gates, on the second floor near the security checkpoint, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. CLEAR's page also says this enrollment was "planning to open on 5/29" without giving a year, so confirm it is open. CLEAR hours can change, so check the CLEAR app or clearme.com the day you fly.

The airport's security page does not say which of the five checkpoints have a TSA PreCheck lane. It sends you to the TSA website for PreCheck registration or renewal, so look at your boarding pass for the PreCheck mark and ask a TSA officer at the checkpoint entrance.

Reserving a security time slot

The airport lists no security reservation program. Walk up to your checkpoint and use the live wait times page to choose one.

Lost ID and gate access

If you arrive without proper ID because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. TSA has other ways to confirm your identity, including publicly available databases. If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be allowed into the checkpoint.

Normally only ticketed passengers can go past security. The airport says exceptions may be made for unaccompanied minors or passengers with special needs, so contact your airline to set that up and get the documents.

Parked in Terminal 3 but flying from Terminal 1

The airport has a tip for this. If you have no bags to check, walk across the pedestrian bridge to the terminal and use the Terminal 3 security checkpoint. A tram connects Terminal 3 to the D Gates and Terminal 1.

If you need to check bags at Terminal 1, take the free inter-terminal shuttle. Its Terminal 3 stop is on Level Zero, near Entry/Exit Door 55. At Terminal 1 the stop is on Level Zero across the crosswalk toward the covered garage.

Reporting something suspicious

To report suspicious activity or unattended baggage at the airport, call 702-261-5125. The LVMPD Airport Bureau office is on the Mezzanine Level at the south end of Terminal 1, above the Southwest Airlines ticket counter. In Terminal 3 it is on the 2nd floor at the far east end of the building.
