Which way into town is best?

For speed and door-to-door ease, take a taxi or ride-share. The distance to Downtown Fort Lauderdale is about 5.5 miles (9 km) by road (OpenStreetMap routing, about 14 minutes with no traffic). Real trips take longer at rush hour.

For public transit, use the Route 1 bus or the free shuttles to Tri-Rail. For a train to other cities, use the Brightline shuttle or Tri-Rail. Cruise passengers: see the cruise section below.

Taxi

Each terminal has a taxi podium on the lower level (Arrivals). From Terminal 1, turn right. From Terminals 2, 3 and 4, turn left and follow the signs.

Taxi fares are regulated by law in Broward County. FLL lists these estimates, which change with the fuel surcharge:

  • Port Everglades: $18 to $21
  • Port of Miami: $86
  • Miami International Airport: $72
  • South Beach: $80
  • West Palm Beach International Airport: $135

FLL's cruise page gives lower estimates for the two ports: about $12 on the meter to Port Everglades and about $67 to PortMiami. Ask the dispatcher for the current fare. Cabs take up to five people for the metered fare and accept credit cards. We found no FLL fare for Downtown Fort Lauderdale, so ask the driver for an estimate before you get in. For a wheelchair-accessible taxi, call 954-270-9535.

Uber and Lyft pick-up

Ride-share pick-up is on the lower level (Arrivals) and the spots differ by terminal.

  • Terminal 1: turn left to a temporary area just past the taxi podium (Zone Z).
  • Terminal 2: turn left to the area near GTA-2.
  • Terminal 3: turn right and cross the crosswalk to the first floor of the Palm Garage.
  • Terminal 4: cross at the crosswalk to the first floor of the Palm Garage.

Terminals 3 and 4 use the southern part of the Palm Garage (Zones A to D). Drop-off is on the upper level (Departures). FLL does not publish ride-share prices.

Limos, sedans and vans

Pick-up is on the lower level curbside, so follow the transportation signs. FLL lists luxury sedan estimates: Port Everglades $45, Port of Miami $90, Miami International $90, South Beach $85, West Palm Beach International $145. Rates are estimates and may vary.

Bus: Broward County Transit Route 1

Route 1 serves the airport every day. The stop is at the Rental Car Center, Stop G. From Terminals 2, 3 and 4, ride the free Rental Car Center shuttle first (every 10 minutes, 24 hours). Terminal 1 passengers can walk the Concourse B pedestrian bridge near the Concourse B checkpoint.

BCT's fare and Route 1 timetable are on broward.org/BCT and in the RideBCT app. You can also call the Rider Info Line at 954-357-8400.

Tri-Rail

Tri-Rail serves Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Free shuttle buses link the terminals to the Fort Lauderdale Airport Station at 500 Gulf Stream Way, Dania, a few miles from the airport. Tri-Rail says the shuttle runs during train operating hours, about every 15 to 20 minutes.

Shuttle stops are on the lower level at GTA-1 (west end of Terminal 1), GTA-2 (between Terminals 2 and 3) and the west end of Terminal 4 (GTA-3). Call 800-874-7245 for fares and times. See the construction note below for the GTA-2 closure.

Brightline shuttle

Brightline runs an airport connector shuttle from its South Florida stations to FLL, every day from 7 AM to 8 PM. The last shuttle leaves the Terminal 3 stop at 8 PM.

Pick-ups: GTA-1 for Terminal 1, GTA-2 for Terminal 2, and GTA-3 between Terminals 3 and 4. Visit Lauderdale says the shuttle is walk-up with a same-day Brightline train fare, at $10 for the first guest and $5 for each additional rider in the same party (checked 2026-10-10). Other sources list different fares, so confirm the price with Brightline. FLL lists 831-539-2091 for questions.

Going to a cruise port

Port Everglades is about a 10 minute ride from FLL. There are no free shuttles to the port. If you pre-arranged your cruise line's transportation, a cruise line representative meets you in the baggage claim area. You cannot use the ship's transportation without a reservation made before you arrive.

Otherwise take a taxi or a shared ride from the Ground Transportation desks near baggage claim. PortMiami is about 45 minutes without traffic, so allow at least 90 minutes. Tri-Rail does not go to PortMiami directly; you would need a taxi from the Miami station.

Construction changes to pick-up spots

FLL says the GTA 4 curb east of Terminal 4 has been closed since April 11, 2025, and GTA 2 (Terminals 2 and 3) since March 10, 2025, both until further notice. The work builds a post-security walkway between Terminals 2 and 3.

For hotel shuttles, off-airport parking shuttles and the Rental Car Center shuttle, FLL sends Terminal 2 passengers to GTA 1 and Terminal 3 passengers to GTA 3. FLL's Tri-Rail and Brightline pages still list GTA-2, so follow the signs on the day.

Use authorized rides only

FLL warns about unauthorized drivers who solicit rides. Use the Ground Transportation desk in baggage claim or uniformed airport staff at designated curbside stands. Ground Transportation Office: 1-866-435-9355, option 3.
