Which DTW lot or garage to pick

The Big Blue Deck is the closest garage to the Evans Terminal. The McNamara Parking Garage is the closest to the McNamara Terminal, where Delta flies. Each garage connects to its terminal by a temperature-controlled skywalk bridge.

Long term parking is in the McNamara garage, the Big Blue Deck and the Green Lots. The Green Lot is the cheapest, but you ride a free shuttle. Check your airline's terminal first, since Delta is at McNamara and American, United and Southwest are at Evans.

DTW says it has more than 16,000 spaces in its garages.

Live space counts and no reservations

The airport home page, metroairport.com, shows live parking status: spaces open in the McNamara long term and short term garage, and whether the Big Blue Deck, Green Lot 1 and valet are open. The parking hotline, (800) 642-1978, gives the status at any hour (option 3 for status).

DTW says parking is first come, first served, and its pages show no reservation option. Plan for a backup lot on a holiday weekend.

A new guidance system is live at the McNamara garage, with color-coded lights showing open spaces by level, aisle and space. The Park Assist app shows live availability before you arrive and helps you find your car on return. The Big Blue Deck was expected to get the system later in 2026.

McNamara deck entrance closure

The short term entrance to the McNamara Parking Deck from the Level 8 Departures Level closed on Monday, October 5, 2026. DTW expects it to stay closed until February 26, 2027. The short term entrance ramp on the east side of the deck remains open.

If you are dropping someone off in the terminal, follow the signs for short term parking and use the east side ramp.

Parking shuttles

Free shuttles run between the on-airport lots and the Ground Transportation Center at both terminals. The Green Lot shuttle runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to both McNamara and Evans. DTW does not publish how often it runs, so allow a cushion. Shuttle services: (800) 642-1978, option 5.

A separate terminal to terminal shuttle links McNamara and Evans, with a stop at the Westin. It leaves about every 10 minutes from the Ground Transportation Centers and the Westin entrance.

McNamara valet parking

Valet is at the McNamara Terminal. Follow the signs for Departures & Valet Parking. An attendant takes your information, helps with luggage and texts you a link you use later to request your car. All valet cars are kept on Level 6 of the garage.

Since June 22, 2026, valet takes credit or debit cards only. You can pay through the text link or at a pay on foot machine in the valet lobby. When you return, request your car through the link, and it will be waiting at the valet podium.

The McNamara valet rates: $12 up to 2 hours, then $4 more for each extra hour ($44 at 9 to 10 hours, $48 at 10 to 11 hours), and $51 from 11 to 24 hours. Each extra or partial day is $51.

Tall vehicles and accessible parking

Most areas of the parking structures cannot fit a vehicle over 7 feet high. Van accessible spaces take vehicles up to 8 feet 2 inches. In the McNamara deck they are on Level 2 near the B elevators: enter from international arrivals and follow the signs. In the Big Blue Deck they are on Level 1 in zones A and B. Taller vehicles can park at the Green Lot.

Accessible spaces are in every parking structure and lot. Only vehicles with a disability placard or disability license plate issued by the Secretary of State may use them. Michigan residents with a handicap placard and a free parking sticker park free.

Electric vehicle charging

EV charging stations are at the McNamara deck, the Big Blue Deck and the South Cell Phone Lot at no additional cost, and they are only in the long term sections of the decks. You can check availability before you arrive on ChargePoint.

  • Big Blue Deck: eight spots on Level 4. Use the long term lanes, follow the green EV signs to Level 4, then turn right.
  • McNamara deck: eight spots on Level 8, plus two in the valet area. Enter from the Departures Level, use the long term entrance, follow the green EV signs through the gate arms and turn left.
  • South Cell Phone Lot: two spots.

For safety, DTW does not allow electric vehicles that have not had a recall repair to park at any of its facilities.

Cell phone lots and drop-off

The two cell phone waiting lots are free. They sit at opposite ends of the airport, so you can wait close to the terminals without parking. The South lot is on eastbound Eureka Road, west of John Dingell Drive. The North lot address on DTW's map link is North Cell Phone Parking Lot, Romulus, MI 48242. DTW does not publish waiting time limits.

To drop off, follow the signs for the airline's terminal and go to the Departures Level for curbside. To park for a moment, go to short term parking. To pick up, use the Arrivals Level. For international arrivals, customs can take a while, so ask your traveler when they clear.

Rideshare drivers meet riders in the designated area on Level 1 of the Big Blue Deck or Level 4 of the McNamara Parking Garage.

Cheaper parking near DTW (off-airport lots)

DTW's shuttle page says courtesy shuttles also serve off-airport parking, but the airport publishes no list of those lots. Two private lots in Romulus say on their own sites that they run a free shuttle to the DTW terminals around the clock. Neither is run by DTW, so confirm everything with the lot.

  • Qwik Park, 7782 Merriman Road, Romulus, MI 48174, (888) 844-7275. Its site lists $15.00 with an advance online reservation and $16.00 drive-up, and the drive-up rate is charged per 24 hours (checked October 10, 2026). The shuttle runs 24/7/365 and "continuously", with no set frequency.
  • Airlines Parking, 8325 Merriman Road, Romulus, MI 48174, (800) 300-9069. Its site says the free shuttle runs 24 hours a day and drops you at the ground transportation areas of all DTW terminals. Its rates page lists $15 a day online and $16 a day drive-up (checked October 10, 2026), so confirm the price when you book.

With no reservation option on airport lots, some drivers book an off-airport lot ahead. Compare the total with the Green Lot, which is $20 a day plus the 2.65% card fee and has a free 24 hour shuttle.

Paying, lost tickets and car trouble

  • If you entered with a credit card, you must use the same card to exit. If you have no ticket, ask to speak to a manager.
  • Lost ticket: the cashier at the exit can help. Have your driver's license and registration ready.
  • Can't find your car or need a receipt: call (800) 642-1978, option 2 for receipts, or (734) 247-6734 for the parking office.
  • Dead battery or flat tire: jump starts and free air are courtesy services for on-site parking customers at (800) 642-1978, option 0.
  • Questions about rates: (800) 642-1978, option 1.

DTW's parking pages name only credit and debit cards. They say nothing about E-ZPass or other toll tags, so ask at (800) 642-1978, option 1, if you plan to pay another way. We found no hours for the cashier booths. Call the 24 hour hotline if you arrive at an odd hour.
