BOS Security: Checkpoints, PreCheck, CLEAR and Wait Times

Boston Logan has seven TSA checkpoints, spread over Terminals A, B, C and E. Massport posts live wait estimates for each one on its Security Wait Times page. The airport recommends arriving two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international one.

Where to see BOS security wait times

Massport runs a Security Wait Times page with live estimates for each TSA checkpoint at Boston Logan. Pick your checkpoint on that page, or check your flight and gate first and then find the matching line.

Two caveats from Massport. The estimates are measured from the point where the queue starts, so a line that spills past that area can mean a longer wait. And Massport says wait times for CLEAR are currently unavailable.

Wait times change all day, so check right before you leave for the airport.

Checkpoints by terminal

All checkpoints at Logan are run by the TSA. Massport lists seven:

  • Terminal A, Checkpoint 1: all A gates
  • Terminal A, Checkpoint 2: all A gates, TSA PreCheck only
  • Terminal B, Checkpoint 3: gates B1 to B22
  • Terminal B, Checkpoint 4: gates B23 to B40
  • Terminal C, Checkpoint 5: all C gates
  • Terminal E, Checkpoint 6: all E gates
  • Terminal E, Checkpoint 7: all E gates

Go to the checkpoint of the terminal your airline uses.

Which terminal, so which checkpoint

Your airline decides your terminal, so your terminal decides your checkpoint. From Massport's airline directory:

  • Terminal A: Delta, domestic flights
  • Terminal B: American (domestic and international departures), United, Southwest, Alaska and Air Canada
  • Terminal C: JetBlue (domestic and international departures), Aer Lingus and Cape Air
  • Terminal E: Frontier, Delta international flights, and most other international airlines

Some airlines use two terminals (American and JetBlue international flights arrive at Terminal E, for example), and Massport warns that terminals can occasionally change. Confirm yours with your airline before you leave.

Which gate range is yours in Terminal B? That picks between Checkpoint 3 and Checkpoint 4, so look at your boarding pass or the flight status page.

Checkpoint hours

Boston Logan is open 24 hours a day, but the checkpoints are not. Massport says they normally open two hours before the first departure of the day. It does not publish opening and closing times for each checkpoint, so ask your airline or the TSA for your day.

If you land in the terminal overnight, you must wait in the public, pre-security area until the TSA reopens the checkpoints.

TSA PreCheck at BOS

Massport says PreCheck lanes are available at the checkpoints in all four terminals. Make sure your boarding pass shows the PreCheck indicator.

In Terminal A, Checkpoint 2 is PreCheck only. For the other checkpoints, Massport does not say which have a dedicated PreCheck lane, so follow the signs when you get there.

Not enrolled yet? You apply online at tsa.gov/precheck, then do a 10-minute in-person appointment.

CLEAR at BOS: Massport's pages disagree

CLEAR lets members skip ahead to screening. Which terminals have it depends on which Massport page you read.

  • The Security Information page says CLEAR is available in Terminals A and B.
  • The Security Wait Times page says CLEAR is available in Terminals A, B and E.

Massport does not say which is current. If you fly from Terminal C or E, check the CLEAR app or ask a CLEAR ambassador at the airport before you count on it. Massport doesn't say which checkpoint inside each terminal has the CLEAR lane.

CLEAR is not offered at the Framingham Remote Terminal (see below).

When to arrive

Massport recommends arriving two hours before domestic departures and three hours before international ones. That covers check-in, screening and the trip to your gate. At peak times, go earlier, and follow your airline's own advice.

One more thing to watch this fall: Massport says FAA-required runway safety work is under way through November, and travelers may see flight delays, especially in the afternoon and evening. Check flight status before you head to the airport.

Bring the right ID. US travelers 18 and older need a REAL ID or another TSA-accepted ID to fly domestic. Massport notes that since February 1, 2026 you can pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID if you can't show acceptable ID. That is a last resort. For liquids, carry-on rules and prohibited items, Massport sends you to the TSA website. Gifts must be unwrapped for screening.

Reserving a security slot, and the Ticket to Skip

Boston Logan has no program to reserve a time slot for the security line. For a shorter wait, plan around these instead.

Massport hands out a Ticket to Skip that lets you go to the front of the security line when you arrive. It comes with:

  • Every Uber Shuttle or Lyft Shuttle ride to the airport
  • The free on-airport shuttle (Route 66) from the Water Transportation Dock, if you arrive by ferry or water taxi
  • Back Bay Logan Express, where you can ask your driver for it

Uber and Lyft shuttle fares are under $20 per person, and prices can change. Check the Uber or Lyft app for the schedule.

Clearing security in Framingham (Delta and JetBlue)

There is one way to skip the Logan checkpoints entirely. The Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham lets eligible Delta and JetBlue passengers check in, drop bags and clear TSA screening, then ride a secure bus that drops you past security at Logan. Massport runs it as a pilot program.

  • Who: Delta and JetBlue passengers on flights leaving Logan between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $9 per adult. Passengers 17 and under ride free with a ticketed adult family member.
  • Where: 19 Flutie Pass, Framingham, MA 01701.
  • Booking: required, through loganremote.com. It is not a walk-up shuttle.
  • Drop-off at Logan: Delta passengers near Gate A18 in Terminal A, JetBlue passengers near Gate C8 in Terminal C.
  • PreCheck works there for eligible passengers. CLEAR does not.

Book at least 60 minutes before your bus leaves (free cancellation up to 90 minutes before). The ride to Logan typically takes 35 to 60 minutes.

Construction that can affect your walk

Massport lists these works as of October 10, 2026. Dates can move, so look at its construction page before you go.

  • Terminals A and B: the pedestrian bridge between Terminal A and the Air Canada, American and Alaska side of Terminal B has been closed since September 1. Follow the detour signs or take the on-airport shuttle between the terminals.
  • Terminal B: pre-security escalators on the Southwest and United side may be unavailable through November. Use the elevators.
  • Terminal E: vestibules E101 and E102 and the Terminal E to C Arrivals level sidewalk are closed. Allow extra time.
