How to get to your gate at DFW
Check your terminal and gate on your boarding pass first. American has gates in all five terminals, so the airline alone does not tell you where to go.
Past security, ride Skylink. It is free, needs no ticket and runs 24 hours a day inside the secure area. DFW says trains arrive every two minutes, the average ride takes five minutes and the longest ride, between the farthest points, takes nine minutes.
In a February 2026 construction notice, DFW said you can also walk between Terminals A, B, C and D past security, but you need Skylink to reach Terminal E. DFW does not publish walking times between gates.
Changing terminals outside security
If you are outside security, take the orange Terminal Link shuttle. DFW says shuttles arrive every 8 to 10 minutes after 5 a.m. and the ride takes 10 to 20 minutes. Before 5 a.m., call 972-574-5465.
Domestic or international terminal?
Terminal D is DFW's international terminal. International Arrivals, the Global Entry office and the CBP cashier are all there.
Some international airlines use other terminals: DFW's airline table lists Air Canada in Terminal E. Check your itinerary for your terminal.
Reading the gate numbers
Each terminal shows its first and last gate, for example D1 to D40. Not every number in between is used: Terminal A has no gates A9 to A17 in the official directory, and Terminal C starts at C8 on the map.
Some gates share a podium. The map lists B7/B8, B9/B10, B12A/B12B, B48/49, C19/20, C21/22 and E29A/E29B as single gates, so you will find both numbers at the same spot. Terminal E also has gates with an A or B suffix, such as E22A and E22B.
Gates can change, so check the screens on the day you fly.
