Getting from TPA to Tampa: your options
From the Main Terminal you can take a taxi, a ride app, a HART bus or a PSTA express bus. There is no train or rail link from the airport to the city, but the SkyConnect train moves you from the Main Terminal to the Rental Car Center, where the buses stop.
The airport says it is five miles west of downtown. Driving the road, downtown Tampa is about 9 miles, roughly 18 minutes without traffic. Prices and schedules change, so check the sources below before you go.
Taxi from TPA
Yellow Cab is the airport taxi. Find it at the curb outside the Baggage Claim level, at Ground Transportation Areas Red 1 and Blue 2. Red baggage claim exits near belt 9; Blue near belt 7.
Meter: $3.50 for the first 1/5 mile, then $2.85 per mile, with a $22 minimum from the airport. The airport's ground transportation page lists a flat $40 to downtown Tampa and the cruise terminal. Its arriving passenger guide says a maximum flat rate of $35 to either place. These two pages disagree, so ask the driver for the rate before you get in. Yellow Cab: (813) 253-0121. Prices checked October 15, 2026.
HART bus: routes 10, 30 and 32
HART buses stop at the Rental Car Center. From Red Baggage Claim, take SkyConnect to the Rental Car Center and follow signs to the remote curb. Between 12:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. SkyConnect runs less often, with about 10 minutes between trains, so allow extra time for an early bus.
Route 30 runs between downtown Tampa and the airport every hour, every day. Weekdays it runs from about 4:30 a.m. to midnight, weekends from 7 a.m. to midnight. HART lists downtown pickups along Kennedy Boulevard, at Whiting Street (connection to the TECO Line Streetcar) and at Marion Transit Center.
Route 10 also runs between downtown and the airport: weekdays 5:30 a.m. to midnight, weekends 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. HART does not post the frequency on that page.
Route 32 runs hourly, seven days a week, between the Netpark Transfer Center and the airport. Weekday service runs from 5 a.m. to midnight. Check HART for weekend times.
The regular one-way fare is $2.00 on HART's fare page, with exact change needed for cash. Checked October 15, 2026. Call HART at (813) 254-4278.
PSTA 727 Airport Express to St. Petersburg
PSTA's 727 Airport Express is a limited-stop route between the airport and downtown St. Petersburg, using I-275 and the Howard Frankland Bridge express lanes. It began service in late September 2026. The bus stops at the Rental Car Center, like HART.
From the airport stop, the first bus leaves at 5:00 a.m. and the last at 11:04 p.m., every day. PSTA says buses usually leave 35 to 40 minutes apart, though gaps range from 10 to 65 minutes. A news report gives the one-way fare as $2.25. PSTA's page shows no fare and no trip time, so check the schedule at psta.net. PSTA phone: (727) 540-1900.
Shuttles and hotel buses
TPA's ground transportation page lists chartered and hotel bus service but no named shared-ride shuttle company. Hotel and charter buses pick up in the four Ground Transportation quad lots on Level 1 of the Main Terminal: Blue 1, Blue 2, Red 1 and Red 2. The Departure Level's west crossover drives are closed to buses.
Many Westshore hotels run a free airport shuttle. See our TPA hotels guide. For a shared shuttle, book directly with a company, since the airport names none.
