Where to catch your hotel shuttle
The airport says hotel and motel shuttle service is provided at the designated Transportation Islands outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Terminal 1: use the pedestrian crosswalk to reach the Ground Transportation Island.
Terminal 2: use the crosswalk outside the baggage claim area.
The local tourism authority describes the same spot as the Transportation Plazas across from Terminals 1 and 2.
Hotels with a free airport shuttle
The airport does not publish a list of shuttle hotels, so these come from the hotels' own details.
- Sheraton San Diego Resort, 1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92101, phone +1 619-291-2900. Marriott's page lists complimentary airport shuttle service that runs daily every 30 to 40 minutes from 4:45 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and says to confirm the next available time with the front desk.
- Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island, 1960 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. Hotel listings show a complimentary shuttle to San Diego International Airport from 4:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily. Hilton's own page could not be checked directly, so call the hotel to confirm the hours and who may ride.
Both hotels are on Harbor Island, a short drive from the airport. Neither listing names a pickup spot, so ask the hotel whether to call from baggage claim or wait at the Transportation Island, and whether the shuttle serves Terminal 1, Terminal 2 or both.
Ramada by Wyndham San Diego Airport
Ramada by Wyndham San Diego Airport, 1403 Rosecrans St, San Diego, CA 92106, phone +1-619-880-4854. Its page says it is near San Diego International Airport but does not mention a shuttle. Call before you count on a ride.
No shuttle? Use the free Flyer
The San Diego Flyer is a free airport shuttle between SAN and the Old Town Transit Center. It stops at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and loads at the terminal transportation islands.
It runs daily from 4:50 a.m. to 12:20 a.m. A live tracker is on the airport site.
It also stops on request at Admiral Boland Way and Palm St, one block from Middletown Station on the trolley.
Between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
A free inter-terminal shuttle runs between Terminals 1 and 2 daily from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m. Use it if your hotel shuttle stops at the other terminal.
Is there a hotel in the airport?
SAN lists no hotel inside its terminals. If you need a bed close to your gate, book a nearby hotel and confirm its shuttle first.
This page lists no room prices. Rates change daily, so check the hotel directly.
Late arrival or early flight
The Flyer and the inter-terminal shuttle stop for a few hours overnight, so they will not help at 1 a.m. For a late landing or a pre-dawn departure, ask your hotel for its overnight shuttle hours or plan on a taxi or rideshare. Uber, Lyft, Wingz and PrimeTime are authorized to operate at the airport.
