Where the Rental Car Center is
The center is at 3355 Admiral Boland Way, San Diego, CA 92101. The airport says all rental car pickups and drop-offs happen there, so you do not collect a car at the terminal. SAN's capital projects page says the building opened in January 2016 on the north side of the airport, off Pacific Highway.
If your company is not on the airport's list, call it before you book a taxi or rideshare, because the address may be different.
Free shuttle from the terminals
Free shuttle buses run continuously between the terminals and the Rental Car Center. The airport lists the shuttle as running 24 hours a day, every day.
The airport page does not give a ride time, a wait time or the exact stop at each terminal. Ask a uniformed Volunteer Airport Ambassador if you cannot find the stop.
Because of terminal construction there is currently no walkway between Terminals 1 and 2, so check your terminal before you head out. If you land at the wrong one, the free Inter-Terminal Shuttle runs daily from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Off-site companies
The airport lists U-Save (1 800 272 8728) as an off-site rental agency. It is not one of the center partners, so ask U-Save for its address and pickup method before you request a taxi or rideshare.
Returning your car
Return your car to the same Rental Car Center, then take the free shuttle back to the terminals. The airport says to check with your agency for service hours and return procedures.
If you leave something in a rental car, contact the rental company. If you leave something on the shuttle, contact the airport's Lost and Found office.
Driving in and out
Coming from the Cruise Ship Terminal, Terminal 1 is about 2 miles west along North Harbor Drive, and Terminal 2 is 1/4 mile past it. From I-5 northbound, take the San Diego Airport / Hawthorn Street exit. From I-5 southbound, take the San Diego Airport / Sassafras Street exit. The airport page does not give separate directions to the Rental Car Center, so enter its street address in your map app.
Turo and peer to peer
We could not confirm San Diego International Airport's current rule for Turo or other peer to peer rentals on an official page. Check the listing and your host's pickup instructions before you land, and plan for the host's pickup spot instead of the Rental Car Center.
