MSP terminals and airlines by terminal

MSP has two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 (4300 Glumack Drive, St. Paul) has Concourses A to G and the Airport Mall. Terminal 2 (7150 Humphrey Drive, Minneapolis) has Concourse H. MSP says 11 airlines are at Terminal 1 and 4 at Terminal 2.

  • Terminal 1: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air France, Alaska, American, Delta, Denver Air, Discover, KLM, United and WestJet. MSP's terminal page also lists Lufthansa here; its airline directory does not, so confirm Lufthansa with the airline.
  • Terminal 2: Frontier, Icelandair, Southwest and Sun Country.

Concourses at Terminal 1, from MSP's airline directory:

  • A: Delta
  • B: Delta, Denver Air
  • C: Delta, WestJet
  • D: Delta
  • E: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Alaska, American, United
  • F: Delta
  • G: Air France, Delta, Discover, KLM

The two terminals are on separate roadways, so MSP advises you to know your terminal before you arrive. Delta uses Terminal 1 as its hub (Concourses A to G), and Sun Country is based at Terminal 2. MSP lists 113 gates in all: 99 at Terminal 1 and 14 at Terminal 2. Airlines move, so check your boarding pass. Regional partners fly under the big airlines' names.

What's changing at MSP right now

Check these before you fly:

  • Terminal 1, Concourse G expansion, 2023 to 2029. MSP lists a $305 million budget and a 157,267 square foot expansion between gates G8 and G13. The passenger corridor between G8 and G13 now follows a U-shaped route with multiple turns, so follow the posted signs.
  • Terminal 2 roadway expansion and rideshare relocation, 2026 to 2027. MSP plans a fifth traffic lane in front of Terminal 2 and says it will keep at least three lanes open during construction. Before the road work, rideshare pickup and drop-off moves to the 2nd level of the Purple Ramp.
  • Terminal 1 inbound roadway improvements, 2026 to 2027. New landscaping and signs on the inbound road between Highway 5 and the Terminal 1 building.
  • Terminal 2 North Expansion. MSP's construction page says it will add two gates, but gives no dates.
  • Post Road and 34th Avenue South reconstruction. Both are on MSP's construction list with no dates shown. Post Road links Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the cell phone lots, and 34th Avenue South is the main road into Terminal 2 from I-494.

Allow extra time and check mspairport.com/about-msp/construction for updates.

Arrivals, departures and getting to the curb

MSP is open 24 hours a day, but ticket counters and security checkpoints open at different times, so check with your airline. MSP's general information line is 612-726-5555, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

MSP says most airlines suggest checking in at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one.

Terminal 1:

  • Ticketing is on Level 2, one level above baggage claim.
  • Delta offers curbside check-in near Door 4.
  • International arrivals exit through the glass doors at the south end of the Baggage Claim Level, near Baggage Claim 11 and Door 4.
  • The FLEX Lane, in the upper-level Departures loop, offers drop-off and pickup through doors 5 to 8.

Terminal 2:

  • Ticketing is on Level 1.
  • International arrivals can be greeted on Level 1 near Door 5.
  • The Express Drop-off / Pick-up area is free, climate-controlled and next to the skyway on Level 2 of the Purple Ramp.

Meeting someone? You can't park at the curb. Two free cell phone lots sit on Post Road, halfway between the terminals: East at 4921 Post Road and West at 4211 Post Road, Minneapolis, MN 55450.

International arrivals and connections

MSP has nonstop international flights on Air France, KLM, Aer Lingus, Icelandair, Discover Airlines, Air Canada and WestJet, among other airlines on MSP's directories. Icelandair uses Terminal 2. The others on this list use Terminal 1.

Arriving from abroad: at Terminal 1, international arrivals exit through the glass doors at the south end of the Baggage Claim Level, near Baggage Claim 11 and Door 4. At Terminal 2, you can be greeted on Level 1 near Door 5. Customs and immigration are run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. CBP lists MSP for Mobile Passport Control, a free app that can speed up your entry if you are eligible. Check cbp.gov for eligibility.

Connecting from an international flight at Terminal 1: Checkpoint 7 in Concourse G is only for international connecting travelers. MSP says all checked baggage must be claimed in the facility regardless of your final destination, so allow extra time and follow your airline's instructions. Need to change money? Currency Exchange International, 612-727-1657, is near International Arrivals by Bag Claim 11 before security (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), at the entrance to Concourse G after security (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and near Gate H5 at Terminal 2 after security (5:30 a.m. to noon).

Getting between terminals and to the city

Travel between the terminals is free and available 24 hours a day, with no ticket needed. Most of the day you ride the METRO Blue Line, which stops at both terminals. From 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., MSP says to use the Metro Blue Line airport shuttle. Between terminals, MSP's airline page says trains run about every 10 minutes at peak times and every 10 to 15 minutes otherwise. Other MSP pages give 15 to 30 minutes from about 3:30 a.m. to midnight, or 15 to 20 minutes from about 5 a.m. to midnight, so check metrotransit.org before you rely on a specific train.

Terminal 1 station: from the Tram Level, one level below bag claim, take the tram to the Red, Blue and Silver ramps and follow the signs to the Blue Line. Terminal 2 station: from Level 1 near Ticketing, go up to the Orange Ramp skyway, follow the signs to the station, then go down one level.

From the airport, MSP says trains reach Mall of America in about 12 minutes and the Warehouse District in downtown Minneapolis in about 25 minutes. Tickets are sold at station machines and on the Metro Transit app. Children 5 and under ride free (limit 3) with a paid fare.

If you have mobility challenges or special needs, MSP runs a free inter-terminal shuttle with a wheelchair lift. It serves Terminal 1, Terminal 2 (Level 1 of the Purple Ramp), the Quick Ride Ramp and the InterContinental Hotel, about every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. MSP's own pages give two Terminal 1 stops for this shuttle (Level 1 of the Brown Ramp, or the east roadway curb at Level 1 of the Gold Ramp) and two overnight numbers (612-794-4147 and 612-725-4681). Follow the overhead signs or call.

Metro Transit city bus Route 54 stops at the Transit Center on Level 1 of the Silver Ramp at Terminal 1. There is no bus stop at Terminal 2, so ride the Blue Line to Terminal 1 first. Check metrotransit.org for the route and times.
