How to get to your gate at LGA

Start with your terminal. Delta flies from Terminal C. Every other airline on LGA's official list (Air Canada, American, Frontier, JetBlue, Porter, Southwest and United) is at Terminal B. Each terminal has its own security checkpoint.

LGA publishes walk times from security to the gates:

  • Terminal B, gates 11 to 31: 4 to 6 minutes
  • Terminal B, gates 40 to 59: 6 to 9 minutes
  • Terminal C, gates 60 to 69: 9 to 11 minutes
  • Terminal C, gates 70 to 79: 5 to 7 minutes
  • Terminal C, gates 80 to 89B: 3 to 5 minutes
  • Terminal C, gates 92 to 98: 5 to 10 minutes

Switching between Terminals B and C

LGA's Connections Guide says that if your connection means switching terminals, you go through security screening again. Leave time for a full line.

Two ways to switch:

  • The free All Terminals Shuttle stops at every terminal. It runs 24 hours a day, every 15 minutes at peak hours and every 20 minutes off peak.
  • A pedestrian path links Terminal B and Terminal C.

If you booked separate tickets, you may have to collect your bags and check them in again with your next airline.

Inside Terminal B

Terminal B's gates sit in two areas: gates 11 to 31 and gates 40 to 59. On the official map, bridges on Level 4, the food and shops level, lead to each area. The gates themselves are on Level 2.

One exception: the official map places Gate 50 on Level 1, the bus and shuttles level, below the other gates. Check the signs if your flight leaves from Gate 50.

Lounges on the official map: the Admirals Club near Gate 31, the United Club and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge near Gate 59, on Level 3, and the Centurion Lounge and the Chase Sapphire Lounge on Level 4.

Reading the gate numbers

LGA gates are plain numbers, with no letter in front. The number tells you the terminal: 11 to 59 is Terminal B, 61 to 98 is Terminal C.

Not every number is used. Terminal B has no gates 13 or 21 and jumps from 31 to 40. Terminal C has no gates 90 or 91. LGA's walk-time table starts Terminal C at 60, but the official map lists no Gate 60: the first gate is 61.

Gates 88 and 89 are each split in two, A and B, so the map lists 88A, 88B, 89A and 89B as four gates. Gates can change, so check your boarding pass and the airport screens.

Terminal A is closed

Terminal A, the historic Marine Air Terminal, is closed to the public, and no commercial flights operate there. The official map still shows six gates there, numbered 1 to 6. With no passenger flights, they are not in our gate list. Modern Aviation, a private operator, is based at Terminal A.
