How to get to your gate at LAX
Check in and clear security at your airline's terminal. Since 2023, LAX says ticketed passengers can walk between the terminals after security, on a path of about 2 miles from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8. LAX doesn't publish walking times between gates, so leave extra time if your gate is at the far end.
Two exceptions need a bus:
- The Regional Terminal (gates 52A to 52I) is linked to Terminals 4 and 6 by airside shuttle buses. American Eagle and Contour passengers go there.
- Several airlines that check in at Terminals 1 and 2 bus their passengers to the West Gates. Aeromexico also has an airside bus from Terminal 3 to Tom Bradley.
There is no train between the terminals yet: SkyLink is not open to travelers.
Reading LAX gate numbers
LAX gates have no letter in front. In Terminals 1 to 8, the first digit of a two-digit gate is the terminal: gate 64A is in Terminal 6, gate 37B in Terminal 3. Gate 9 is in Terminal 1.
Three exceptions to know:
- Gates 20 to 28 appear under Terminal 2 on the official map, but LAX says they are now part of Delta's Terminal 3 and reached from T3.
- Gates 52A to 52I are not in Terminal 5. They are at the Regional Terminal.
- Gates 130 to 159B are at Tom Bradley, and gates 201A to 235 at the West Gates.
Not every number is used. Terminal 4 lists gates 41, 43, 46B, 46C and 48A to 49B only, and Terminal 1 has no gate 10. Type your gate in the finder above, and check your boarding pass and the airport screens, because gates change.
International gates at LAX
Tom Bradley is LAX's international terminal: about 45 airlines check in there. The West Gates sit in the Tom Bradley complex and connect to it, and LAX says Southwest international check-ins are bused there.
Some airlines check in at one terminal and fly from another. British Airways and Japan Airlines check in at Terminal 4 but depart from Tom Bradley. Your boarding pass shows your gate.
Terminal 5 is closed
Terminal 5 is closed for construction, and LAX anticipates reopening it in 2028. No gates are listed there on the official map. If your airline used to fly from T5, ask it where to check in and which gate to use.
Questions travelers ask
How many gates does LAX have?
The gate directory of the official LAX interactive map lists 145 gates (checked October 10, 2026), across Terminals 1 to 8, Tom Bradley, the West Gates and the Regional Terminal. Terminal 5 is closed, so it has none.
Which terminal is my gate in at LAX?
For a two-digit gate, the first digit is the terminal: gate 72A is in Terminal 7. Gates 20 to 28 are reached from Terminal 3, gates 52A to 52I are at the Regional Terminal, gates 130 to 159B at Tom Bradley and gates 201A to 235 at the West Gates.
Can you walk between gates at LAX?
Yes, after security you can walk between the open terminals. LAX puts the path from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8 at about 2 miles. The Regional Terminal is the exception: airside buses link it to Terminals 4 and 6.
Where are gates 52A to 52I at LAX?
At the Regional Terminal, a remote building used by American Eagle and Contour. You reach it by airside shuttle bus from Terminals 4 and 6. American lists an Admirals Club there, across from gates 52D and 52E.
Which gates are international at LAX?
Tom Bradley (gates 130 to 159B) is the international terminal, where about 45 airlines check in. The West Gates (201A to 235) are part of the Tom Bradley complex, and LAX says Southwest international check-ins are bused there. Check your boarding pass, because some airlines check in at another terminal.
