DAL Rental Cars: Shuttles, Companies and Return Tips

At Dallas Love Field, each rental company has a counter in the hallway leading to baggage claim. The cars themselves are off the terminal, so you ride a company shuttle from the transportation lower level. Avis, Alamo, National, Enterprise and Hertz publish addresses on Cedar Springs Rd, and shuttle details differ by brand. There is no single rental car center.

How renting at DAL works

Numerous rental companies operate at Love Field. Each has a counter in the hallway leading to baggage claim, so you can start your paperwork before you collect your bags.

The cars are not at the terminal. Shuttles pick up and drop off customers on the transportation lower level, and each company runs its own.

Finding your shuttle

Head to the lower level ground transportation area. The airport also lists rental shuttles on the lower level of transportation.

  • Avis: from baggage claim, exit the main entrance to the transportation island. The Avis courtesy bus stops there at regular intervals. Avis lists the trip as about 1 mile and roughly 8 minutes.
  • National: after baggage claim, follow the signs to the Rental Car shuttle buses, go down the ramp and turn left at the curb to the pick up area. National says the shuttle runs every 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Enterprise: from baggage claim, follow the signs to the rental car shuttle buses, then go down the ramp to the curb. Enterprise says the shuttle runs every 5 to 7 minutes, daily from 4 AM until the last flight of the evening.
  • Hertz: Hertz says to go to the rental car shuttle pick-up area on the lower level, where its courtesy shuttle runs about every 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Alamo: go to the Alamo counter near baggage claim for your agreement and keys. Alamo's page does not name a shuttle stop.

Early and late arrivals

National says its shuttle runs daily from 4 AM until the last flight of the evening, and Enterprise gives the same. Alamo says after-hours shuttle service to the airport begins at 4:00 AM. All three describe a drop box for keys for returns after hours. Enterprise lists office hours of 6:00 AM to 11:59 PM.

Avis says the vehicle must be returned during office hours, which it lists as 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM. If your flight is earlier or later, ask your company about after-hours returns before you book.

Returning your car

Follow the airport's rental car return signs to your company's lot, then ride its shuttle back to the terminal. Avis tells walk-up renters to follow those signs to the Avis lot.

Allow extra time for the shuttle on top of the 90 minutes the airport recommends before departure.

Turo and peer to peer rentals

Peer to peer car sharing is listed by the airport, with Turo named. The airport groups Turo pickups with app-based rides at the valet pavilion and Garage C Level 1. Confirm the exact handoff spot with your Turo host.

Fees and airport charges

The airport's rental car page lists no fee schedule. Your booking confirmation shows the airport fees and taxes for your rental, so read it before you pay.

Driving out of the airport

Love Field sits at Mockingbird Lane and Herb Kelleher Way. The airport says it is seven miles from downtown and close to I-35, the Dallas North Tollway and US-75. From the Tollway or US-75, exit Mockingbird Lane and go west. From I-35, exit Mockingbird Lane and go east.
