DCA Airport Guide: Terminals, Metro, Parking, Food and Wi-Fi

Reagan National (DCA) has two terminals. Terminal 1 (gates A1 to A9) serves Air Canada, Frontier and Southwest. Terminal 2 (gates B10 to E59) serves Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue and United. The airport says that if you move between the two, you go through security again. DCA handled 24.89 million passengers in 2025, and the Metro station is attached to Terminal 2. Terminal 1 was long called Terminal A, and Terminal 2 is the old Terminal B/C, names the airport's own pages still use in places. American Airlines treats DCA as a hub.

DCA terminals and airlines by terminal

DCA has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Here is where each airline on DCA's official airline list is:

  • Terminal 1 (gates A1 to A9): Air Canada, Frontier, Southwest.
  • Terminal 2 (gates B10 to E59): Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, United.

Terminal 2 holds the B, C, D and E gate areas and National Hall, the main shopping and dining area. The airport's security page says Terminal 1 serves only Air Canada, Frontier and Southwest.

DCA's list names the airlines that sell tickets, not the regional partners that fly for them. If your flight is on a regional carrier, look at the airline name on your ticket, such as American, Delta or United, and use that terminal.

Old names: Terminal 1 is the former Terminal A, and Terminal 2 is the former Terminal B/C. The airport's own pages still use them in places.

American Airlines: DCA is American's Washington hub. The airport's articles page links press coverage of "American's New Concourse at its Washington DC Hub", and the 14 gates of the concourse that opened in 2021 are today's E46 to E59.

Gate numbers can change, so confirm your gate on the flight board or on flyreagan.com before you leave the main area.

What is changing at DCA

Project Journey, the airport's $1 billion upgrade, is finished. Its 14-gate commuter concourse opened in April 2021 (today's E gates, E46 to E59, which replaced the old Gate 35X bus gate), and its two new security checkpoints opened in November 2021. They are the Terminal 2 North and South checkpoints you use today.

DCA Reimagined, a multi-year upgrade in Terminal 2, is the current project. The airport says it brings new concessions, redevelopments, upgraded restrooms and new amenities, so expect some closed restrooms and changing shops. The airport has also closed the cell phone lot for terminal roadway construction and cut Economy parking by about 40 percent for a new parking structure. See the parking page for both.

Watch the airport's construction advisories on flyreagan.com before you travel.

Arriving, departing and security at DCA

DCA is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Put 2401 S Smith Blvd, Arlington, VA 22202 in your navigation app.

The airport recommends arriving 2 hours before a domestic flight, and tells you to check with your airline. Another page of its FAQ suggests 90 to 120 minutes. DCA says it has a limited number of international flights, and immigration and customs happen before boarding at the departure airport.

There are 3 security checkpoints:

  • Terminal 1 (gates A1 to A9): open 4:00 am to 9:00 pm.
  • Terminal 2 North (closest to American): open 4:00 am to 11:00 pm.
  • Terminal 2 South (closest to Alaska, Delta, JetBlue and United, also serves American): open 4:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The airport's FAQ gives a different Terminal 1 opening time, 4:30 am, so treat 4:00 am as the earliest and check the live wait times on flyreagan.com. CLEAR is at all checkpoints, and each checkpoint has a TSA PreCheck lane.

Going from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, or the reverse, means going through security again, according to DCA's FAQ.

Personal vehicle pickup: the outside curb at Terminal 1, and the outside curb on the baggage claim level at Terminal 2. Use the marked crosswalks. Uber and Lyft use a different spot: the third (outer) curb at Terminal 1 and the outer curb on the baggage claim level at Terminal 2, where green flags mark the loading zones (choose Zone 1 to 4 in your app).

Drop-off with only a carry-on? Kiss & Fly is a pull-off area between the parking garages and the Metro station with quick access to the North and South checkpoints, for Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue and United passengers. Follow the purple Kiss & Fly signs.

REAL ID: since February 1, 2026, travelers 18 and older without a REAL ID or another acceptable ID must pay a $45 identity verification fee before screening, the airport says. A U.S. passport or a Global Entry card works.

Getting around DCA and to the city

Metro: an elevated Metrorail station connects to the concourse level of Terminal 2 by two enclosed pedestrian bridges. DCA's FAQ says to use the Blue or Yellow line. From Terminal 1, DCA's Metrorail page says to exit to the street-side curb and board any Airport Shuttle bus to the Terminal 2 stop, where an enclosed bridge reaches the station. DCA's FAQ separately calls Terminal 1 a short walk inside the terminal, so follow the signs and ask staff if you are unsure.

Metro fares: DCA lists daytime fares from $2.25 to $6.75, and $2.25 to $2.50 after 9:30 pm and on weekends. Bus fare is $2.25. These figures were checked on October 15, 2026 and change, so confirm on wmata.com. Metro's station page lists the first Blue Line train at 6:17 am on Saturday and Sunday and the last at 1:41 am on Saturday and 11:41 pm on Sunday (checked October 15, 2026). For weekday hours and how often trains run, check the live arrivals at wmata.com. The station opens 10 minutes before the first train.

Airport shuttle buses run 24 hours a day. The Economy bus links the Economy Lot with all terminals. The Rental Car / Garage Parking bus links the Rental Car Facility, Parking 1 and 2, and all terminals. At Terminal 2, shuttle pickup is on the baggage claim level. Garage shuttles run about every 5 to 10 minutes and the Economy shuttle about every 10 minutes, according to the airport's parking pages.

Taxis: exit through any baggage claim door to the marked taxi lines. From Terminal 2, DCA says to walk indoors on the baggage claim level to Doors 5 or 6.

Which flights leave from DCA

DCA is mainly a short-haul airport. Under the federal Perimeter Rule, nonstop flights go no farther than 1,250 miles from Washington, with exceptions for a limited number of daily flights to cities in the West and Texas, including Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Austin and San Antonio.

The FAA's slot rule limits landings and takeoffs to 62 per hour at DCA, according to the airport. That is one reason schedules are tight and delays spread fast.

DCA and Dulles (IAD) are both run by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. If you are looking for a long international flight, check IAD.

Food, drink and shopping at DCA

The official DCA directory lists 88 shops, restaurants, cafes and vending spots. National Hall in Terminal 2 has the most, 26, followed by the B gates (14), the A gates (10) and the E gates (10).

Before security: Terminal 1 has Cibo Express Gourmet Market, CTY, District Bar and a Dunkin'. Terminal 2 has The Cafe at DCA North and The Cafe at DCA South, near the checkpoints.

After security, examples include Ben's Chili Bowl, Chick-fil-A and Legal Sea Foods in National Hall, Busboys and Poets and Kapnos Taverna in the D gates, and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites and P.F. Chang's in the E gates. Hours are in the directory and change, so check before you go.

DCA has no baggage storage, so plan to carry your bags through your meal.

Lost and found at DCA

Start with DCA's online Report Lost Item form. There is no charge, and the airport warns that third party sites will charge fees.

Where to ask depends on where you lost it:

  • On the plane, at check-in, at the gate or on a jet bridge: contact the airline.
  • At the security checkpoint: TSA, through tsa.gov/form/lost-and-found.
  • Terminal, concourse, parking shuttle buses and other public areas: DCA Lost and Found, 703-417-0110, Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4 pm, closed weekends and federal holidays.
  • In a DC taxi: the DC Taxicab Commission, 202-645-6018.

The office is in Terminal 1, first floor, Room M-160, across from entrance door 2, near the Air Canada and Frontier ticket counters. If it is closed you may reach a message service. A technician replies within one business day, according to the airport. You can pick up your item, send a designated person with written authorization, or arrange FedEx shipping with your own prepaid label. DCA does not pay for shipping.

Other services at DCA

All checkpoints are accessible, and TSA Cares can assist travelers with disabilities or medical conditions. Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyards can be picked up from the USO or the pre-security information desks between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Taxi dispatch for a wheelchair-accessible taxi: 703-417-4333.

Things to do: the Terminal 1 Exhibit Hall, the public art in National Hall in Terminal 2, and the north terrace on the Departures level of Terminal 2.
